Astronomers are convinced that the myriad stars and galaxies we observe in the Universe represent only a tiny portion of all the matter it contains. The rest, inaccessible to telescopes, has yet to be discovered. Indeed, galaxies that move too fast and stars that seem to refuse to obey the laws of dynamics indicate the presence of matter not visible to us, a dark matter, whose mass, in the shadows, disrupts the cosmic ballet: the visible mass would thus be only a tiny fraction of the matter that makes up the Universe.
